Description
Anisotropic gold platelets (<220 nm across) with a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) surface, dispersed in water. The absorption peak is at ~580 nm and the band stays broad into the red: in Grove's example spectrum, absorbance at 633 nm is ~95% of the peak value, and ~50% at 785 nm.
That makes it a good starting point for SERS and plasmonic sensing with 633 nm excitation. Grove lists SERS substrate development, plasmonic sensing, optical coupling, morphology-dependent optics, and catalysis and electrocatalysis as research uses.
Production: Grove colloids are made by physical deposition of metallic gold in the presence of the stabilising ligand, then dispersed in water. No gold salts, chemical reducing agents, CTAB or CTAC are used.
